Curriculum Development
The curriculum is the essence of school. Ensure your curriculum is solid, standards based, and meeting the needs of the students you service. PIER provides services to help schools develop curriculum maps, scope and sequence, ensure standards alignment, establish benchmarks, and ensure unit and lesson plan congruency.
Curriculum Review
Is the curriculum at your school doing what you think it is? There is only one way to find out--perform a Curriculum Review. Curriculum Reviews are best performed by a third party in order to provide the most objective evaluation. For these reviews, PIER staff come on site and develop focused questions to evaluate and spend considerable time in classrooms across a school or district to objectively observe. A final evaluative report is provided to the school/district administration.
Pedagogy Review
Like the curriculum review discussed above, a Pedagogy Review is best performed by a third party in order to provide the most objective evaluation. For these reviews, PIER staff come on site and determine if teachers' pedagogy is in tandem with a school’s or district's expectations. Schools spend a lot of time and money on professional development and expect teachers to implement newly learned instructional techniques in their classrooms. A Pedagogy Review can provide data as to where teachers are excelling and where they need additional support.
Unit/Lesson Plan Development
Teachers and parents often need support in developing unit and lesson plans that meet their students' needs in addition to meeting requirements established by the school and the PA Common Core. PIER's staff of highly trained and experienced teachers offers support to educators in this regard. Whether you are overwhelmed by the volume of work required to write unit/lesson plans, you lack the skills or content knowledge to write unit/lesson plans, wish to have someone review your plans to ensure they contain the required supports and cover required content, etc., PIER can help.
Behavior Management Support
Many teachers, especially new teachers, have difficulty with classroom and individualized behavior management, and classroom management is an area that is formally evaluated on teachers' yearly reviews. PIER has the capacity to help new and seasoned teachers to develop their classroom management skills while promoting positive behavioral supports and helping children develop self-control, self-management, and self-advocacy skills.
PIER also provides services to educators and parents on behavior tracking systems that are often used during the evaluation, re-evaluation, and yearly IEP meetings. Functional Behavior Assessments and Analyses and Behavioral Intervention Plans are becoming commonplace in academic settings. All educators need to know how to develop, implement, and collect data on goals outlined in these documents.
Peer Mentoring Program
PIER can guide you through the steps to start a successful program at any educational level.
